Hello STARL community,
We would like to provide some clarifications about the STARL project, particularly regarding our team structure, funding, and future plans around burning and NFT limits.
1. Team History & Accomplishments
Our current team comprises project managers, blockchain developers, web developers, game developers, artists, and a brand/marketing/design team, who have all worked closely to turn ideas into reality. As happens with most organizations, some contributors have come and gone, but the core team remains and works together effectively.
Over the past year and a half, the team that you know has designed and developed various games and environments in UE5, an NFT Marketplace synced to Unreal Engine 5, Pass Point system, Warp Nexus Alpha MMO, Starcade Leaderboard, wallet authentication in UE5, as well as many backend tools, APIs, and indexing tools from the ground up. We have developed these tools because the technology did not exist at the time, or we did not want to rely on third parties to develop them. We have worked hard to build a strong core infrastructure for our environment and utilities.
2. The Move Forward
Our project was created from the ground up by dedicated individuals working day and night to meet the extensive roadmap, supported through funding from the community and holders. We have been exploring new avenues for funding the project beyond NFT sales and have been fortunate to have received interest from investors and potential partners. However, we understand that a verified team with a legal entity is crucial to securing investments, and we are actively working to establish a stronger presence on the business side of the project.
To this end, we have been restructuring our team on the backend and implementing team management strategies, such as verified management, team leadership roles representing each sector, team-controlled multi-sig wallets and contracts, team votes on initiatives, and more transparency. The team has been led by the core members of each sector of design, development, branding, and project management for over a year, and we are expanding this team structure to the business side.
This has resulted in the implementation of a multi-sig team wallet and team wallet-owned contracts for most recent NFT collections and marketplace contracts, meaning more safety, security, and accountability than there has been with a single individual having control of these aspects, which is how STARL was run previously until recently. While it may seem to some like the team is changing roles, behind the scenes, things will essentially function the same in design and development, but now with greater flexibility, adaptability, and a more balanced decision-making process.
3. Leadership Upgrade
We want use this opportunity to announce that Johnny U. will be stepping up to publicly co-lead the project, and Scott Brown will also be leading as President. Combining both individuals to head the project made the most sense to the team due to the combination of knowledge, skill, and experience they both bring in their respective roles.
Johnny has been long considered as the driving force that has brought all aspects of the project team together, working nonstop with the various sectors of the project together for over a year. He has supported each component of the project and team members individually and collectively, and everyone will no doubt be familiar with his much anticipated and well-received updates and insight in the community chats. This new position is not something that he has asked for or sought out, but was voted on by the team and it certainly makes the most sense to anyone who has seen his tireless contributions, endless patience and empathy, thoughtful perspective, and wisdom. Scott has decades of game development and leadership experience from managing his game development teams to being head of a company with over 200 employees when creating LEGO Universe.
While such roles are necessary in most organizational structures, we would like to assure everyone that decision making will continue to be a collaborative team effort based on consensus and community feedback to ensure that we take the most effective approaches to growing and improving as we move forward together in this new chapter.
Team leadership for STARL represents all sides of the project. We have a large team, and many areas of development are underway. As ideas and pathways are presented, decisions will be made based on votes from leaders of each section of the project, which are currently comprised of the following people:
- Scott Brown — President / Metaverse & Game Development Lead
- Johnny Utah — Project Lead
- Dominic — Web3/Blockchain Lead Developer
- Naomi Salazar (iamnaomidesign) — Creative Director / Marketing / Branding Lead
- Ken — Logistics Manager / Test Lead
- Hubb — Business Development
- skdandy — Moderator Lead / Documentation Lead
The above individuals are the leads of each sector of the STARL team, but our team has many more people helping us grow and build. To get familiar with the rest of the team and find out more, you can visit https://starlproject.com/about/ or our documentation.
4. We’re Listening — NFT limits
In addition to our team restructuring efforts, we are starting new initiatives to show the community that we are listening. These first initiative involves burning 1 STARL PAL NFT for every 5 minted, a decision based on feedback from the community aimed at increasing and maintaining the value of these unique gaming assets used to gain access to all features in Warp Nexus. Since we have giveaways involving PALs, it felt necessary to bring balance.
The second initiative is to put an official cap of 1000 on the supply of Limited Artist Living Module collection, which now makes them truly limited. The cap was never officially announced, but was listed in our pitch deck for investors. By drawing the line here officially, we are ensuring that each of these Living Modules remain exclusive and valuable to those who own them. Each one is unique in its outer design, with a variety of sizes that change how your STARL home looks internally. These modules will of course also provide a Pass Point earning system once implemented. There may be other different styles of Living Modules, or capsules, but they will be different collections, designs, and implementations (i.e. mini capsules, PAL edition Living Module, branded spaces, etc). The Limited Artist Edition Living Module will stay at 1000 max and have their own unique functionalities.
5. Funding
We also want to state that we are actively scouting new funding opportunities and possibilities. Previous leadership relied solely on NFT sales to fund the project and development. The team recognizes that this is a limited approach to sustainability. We are discussing branding updates as well on top of our restructuring and investment avenues into our project.
We hope this update has helped provide clarity on the current structure and changes with the project, and appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience while we have transitioned into this new approach over the last few months.
